Fun in the paddy field

Group of students from England catching fish in the paddy field

After harvesting season, the paddy field will be left undisturbed to get the remaining roots to die so that the field will be ready for another planting round by third quarter of the year. After second quarter of the year, the field will normally filled with water and fishes and 'akep' or shell will fill it.

Just before planting season, each family who owns the field will flow the water out of the field so that it will be easier for them to make a catch and usually they will invite people to join them in fish catching. If you happens to be in Ba Kelalan during this season, you will be very lucky as you may experience one of the culture highlights and tasting the most tastier and healthy fish.

If you are in a big group, 'mud war' is one of the highlights where you can just pull everyone into the field and splash them with mud. After much laughter and fun, a cooling river nearby is waiting for you to wash up. Trust me, its fun! Especially for foreigner. Just after you change into new shirt, you can enjoy drinking coca-cola for the rest of the afternoon (It's available in local store) enjoying the serenity of the place in the afternoon.
