This is one part of the world that I have always wanted to explore throughout my life. I do not know why but, there is something about Vietnam that charmed the innermost of me - could it be the picture perfect painting of farmers working on their spectacular ricefields with their con shaped hat shielding them from the sun?
Or of those American movie featuring part of Vietnam after the world war, with the sight of hundreds of bikes and view of ladies walking down the street doing their morning errands to the market with their signature con hat and long straight lock, tied neatly at the back.
Many years back, I learnt about the hilltribes at northern part of Vietnam too. I came across few pictures and blogs about travellers tales to this area and it intrigued me.
I must go before things changed by modernization. I must capture everything in my mind. I must learn their system and way of living. Because I know, things will change when modernization set in.
Together with my friend, we decided to try on back packing trip to Hanoi.
We are glad that we are there on our own that we may see many things.
We observed the people.
We tried their authentic food in the street, and no doubt - its always tasted better than the one that we always had at this fancy vietnamese restaurant in Kuala Lumpur. Yes, I am fan of Vietnamese food.
And, the coffee. I was introduced to Vietnamese coffee at Hai Peng Coffee Shop in Chukai, Terengganu. - One of my favourite coffee shop.
Their coffee is thick and sweet.
And knowing that we would travel for 8 hours up north to Sapa, we bought 4 sleeper cabin with aircondition which we found very wise move as the weather there is hot and sticky. This time we shared the cabin with two American lady whom at first thought we dont speak English.
And we caught the night train to Sapa highlands to see this tribe.
They make a beautiful asset to the tourism industry in Vietnam. With their unique costume, feature and lifestyle - They draw thousands of tourist to their area everytime.
We observed them. And they are real beauty.
And I hope, no matter how modernization set in - They will still remain as who they are.
